The beginning...

In a nondescript suburb, in a nondescript city, a young girls life is well on the way. With another school day over and the shadows going long, she wanders through the park calming her mind from the noise of the day.  Sameness gives her comfort, but she longs for change which confuses her developing brain; how do you love where you are but dream to be in a place where the days don't morph into each other like a time loop movie without the comedy?

She is surrounded by a world that could only be described as normality; kids around her just get on with things, friends playing together, but for this girl the school day is tiring, especially when your goal is to keep her head low and the only lesson learnt is the simple art of hiding in plain sight.

This girl is me.

The middle...

With a huge sigh as she packs away the school uniform once and for all and the whole world opens up. University, and dipping toes in the young adult social world was exciting but exhausting. She gets by on social lubricants such as alcohol but most of the times is happy working part time to save up for the ultimate adventure overseas - its easy to decline a social event when you need to work to save up for your special interest. But these times were fleeting in the grand scheme of life and before she knew it - part time work turned to full time work in a grown-up job that offered little respite, working 9-5, 48 weeks per year.

A failed first job, (ok strengths based - I know now what I don't want to do), and a step into a completely different industry which was far better, followed by maternity leave still left her with little energy and the days were marked by work and sleep, work and sleep and the wonderings of when her life might begin in earnest.

The now...

The journey to an authentic self is never linear, especially when you have no idea where this journey is going to take you. Should I be frightened or excited? The girl now a grown adult with responsibilities, observes quietly and makes here own plans on her own terms. A journey to feeling included in her own life takes many years, all the while the pitter patter of little footsteps fill the house and there is work to be done. Time is filled easily, but the words of her school principal one morning many years earlier stick in her mind, make the most of the small minutes between things in the day and use them productively - time is a precious commodity and is it is the great equaliser, use yours wisely.

More to come....
